samsung note sleeve, wip

here's another sneak peek of one of the wips.  i don't have a name for it yet.

i took this photo with my mobile phone.
this one has a vintage look.

i used one of my favourite fabrics for the front and back panels.  i love both traditional and stylised prints.  the lovely colours of the prints on those cotton fabrics just put smiles on your face :)

for the units that are available for sale, pls visit The Kopai Boutique.

important note:  the stitching and reinforcement of the leather slot on the front panel is hidden under the lining.  this ensures that the surface of the lining that touches the phone has smooth surface and will not scratch the phone.

mini patchwork quilt

i just love fabrics.  i find it difficult to throw them away even when they are smaller than the size of my palm.

i whipped these up in less than 15 minutes.  i used the flip and sew technique and just stitch them up randomly.  no batting and i'm not bothered about their sizes either (that's why it was just 15 minutes).  they came in handy....... as a mug rug......a glass coaster.  they make superb mouse pads too.

i cut them into strips of at least 3cm wide (lengths varied)
the mug rug and the coaster are very much needed,
coz of this glass table top.

love my new mouse pad :)

something fun....something different

last month, i made a zorro mask for my husband.  i made it from scratch.  i googled but i did not have much luck this time and i was running out of time.  with alya's hanbok...i had a few months' notice.  with this zorro mask...i had only a few hours.  and my hubby wanted to wear this mask over his glasses...not underneath.

so, without any reference on any possible how-tos....i took his pair of glasses and used it as my template. and armed with my loyal pfaff sewing machine...i began working on the first prototype.  i was working as fast as i could.  i couldn't even stop to take photos of the work in progress or even the finished product.  this photo below was from his friend.....and the best or maybe the worst part was...the mask went missing right after he took it off !

a pretty good job with the mask.
don't you think so sayang?

handmade handbag - prototype of sweat pea

this is a prototype of a small tote i called the sweat pea.  the prototype was developed last year but i couldn't get to finalised it coz i misplaced the template that i had developed for this bag.

the handles and the trimmings are from genuine leather.
the outer shell is unmistakably an ikea fabric.
i love the print on this fabric.
this prototype is named the "toffee triangle".
oh.... i had to touch up the wall.  it's full of the kids' graffiti.

i came up with this prototype when i was thinking of a quick-to-grab bag that i can take as and when i need to dash out of the house to get something for the kids or the kitchen :)  i like it because it is light, not too small, not to big.  just big and deep enough to hold my purse, my mobile phone, my keys, my pair of shades and perhaps a bottle of drinking water.

so, should i get it into production?

handmade handbag - another lavender for alya

i made another lavender for alya.  she chose this fabric herself.

it is a simple no fuss boxy shaped sling bag with single compartment.

the lavender is customised to fit her tablet phone.
the long strap is made of genuine leather.

it has magnetic snap button.
the outer fabric was purchased from pondok craft
and the fabric for the lining is from ikea.

that's my favourite fossil purse used as a prop for this photo.
i am trying to develop a prototype of this fossil purse,
using fabrics and simple leather trimmings.
i will use magnetic snap button instead for the closure
because  i found that
the snap button on this fossil purse wears out over time.
the purse flap came undone with a slight nudge.

so, this lavender is TAKEN.  i will be finalizing a few prototypes for lavender and i hope the lavenders will be made available for sale soon at the kopai boutique.

cheers,
YunY

it is a slow progress. upholstery fabrics and genuine leather are not easy to work with.  but the finished result is always so rewarding.

will upload more photos as we go along :)

once completed, they will be available for sale at the kopai boutique.

prototype of samsung note sleeve

i made this prototype last week.  i only used recycle fabric and recycle leather coz i'm not sure how it will turn out.  i want some cushioning to envolope the phone.  i don't want it to be too loose nor too tight...just snug enough to let the phone slide out with a light squeeze.  i don't want to use any closure that will impede immediate retraction.  but i want something that will hold the flap in place.

i was working very fast.  i just can't wait to see the finished prototype.  i didn't even stop to iron the fabric or to press the seam or to clip the curves.

so this is what i have come up with.

UPDATE: the mushroom, i.e. the samsung note sleeve has been borne.

handmade handbag - fabric sample

i went to a gathering at a friend's house last two weeks.  i shared my blog and photos of my handmade handbags.  i received a request to reproduce my daughter's cute sling bag, i.e. the 'cranberry corn dip' lavender.

another lavender will be made for sofia and i think these fabrics that are lying among my stash currently might interest sofia.

sofia, which one would you like?

at the same time my daughter alya asked me to make one for her.  she has chosen one of the fabrics in "suggested combo 2".... the one on the far left.  no patchwork ... just a single fabric.

can't wait to start working on the lavenders.

a hanbok and two sets of baju kurung moden

i  did some research on the net on how to make a hanbok.  i came across a couple of websites/blogs that give me some idea on how to make them.  i also down loaded a couple of photos from the net for inspiration.  and i spent quite a number of days figuring out the construction of the hanbok.

finally, i decided to make some modification to the chima so that alya can wear it with ease.  alya is tall and slim.  i think she will look fabulous in hanbok.

apart from the hanbok, i also made a pair of baju kurung moden each for alya and lisa.  i made a sloper for both alya and lisa (i referred to this book that was written by lucia mors de castro).

and then i made the 1st prototype of the baju kurung for them.  once i am ok with how they look on them, i cut the actual fabric.

here are some of the photos (i only managed to photograph alya's.  lisa was away at college) :-

this is the pattern of alya's sloper on paper

front view of the actual sloper....based on the pattern paper.
i love to see how well it fits alya.

side view of the sloper.  nice.
and alya told me that it feels comfortable.

the 1st prototype...i am very pleased with
the way the sleeve hangs.  the fit of the sleeve head is almost perfect.
and alya (being a very tough critic) told me that it feels comfortable.

full front view of the 1st prototype.
i love the way it envelopes alya. not too tight not too loose.
i am definitely very pleased with the result.
i just had to edit this photo and paste some daisies here
to hide the "not so pretty background" :)

alya put on the baju kurung moden i made for her.
it was 1st day of eid 2012.

alya and lisa putting on the
baju kurung moden i made for them that 1st day of eid 2012.
i think they look fabulous.
i have to say it again...i just love the way the sleeves hang.

i think i did a pretty good job.

cheers,
YunY

i am so happy.....thank you sal.

my first attempt at making a hanbok

alya is having her school graduation party next month and she wants to wear a hanbok to the party.

so i googled "how to make a hanbok" and came up with my 1st hanbuk.  it's not perfect but i think it would be good enough for one's 1st attempt.

here's some of the photos taken as it progresses:-

this photo was taken at nite

i made some modification
to the chima, so that alya can  put it on easily

the jeogori, this week

more photos of the jeogori, not too sure about the placement
of the embroidered roses.  maybe i need to re position them.

the cuff of the sleeve, decorated with embroidered roses
that i cut out from some fabric remnants
