baju kurung moden that i made for alya and lisa, eid 2014

more photos of the baju kurung moden for alya and lisa.

i prefer making baju kurung moden rather than traditional baju kurung.  i think it gives more space to experiment on my creativity.  i am trying to incorporate raglan sleeves into the baju kurung moden in my next project.  alya prefers a looser armhole. i learn that a bigger armhole for set in sleeve will result in more restrictive arm movement.

made the long skirt with a kick back flare.
alya's rocking it while lisa and their cousin looked on.
lisa's pink sateen cotton baju kurung is teamed with a paneled long skirt.

pink cotton sateen for lisa
lovely!  easy care cotton.
the fabric for alya's baru kurung is the top one.
the one in the middle is for my sister.

i will share photos of the paper patterns of the dress and the skirt, in the next post, insha Allah.

watch this space.

lisa at the dinner

i have only three photo of lisa at the dinner party.  unfortunately, none shows the full view of the outfit.  this was the clearest photo of her with the dress.  nonetheless, i like what i see :)

click here for more photos of the dress.

my lisa and the dress i made for her.
she loves it.

i love it too :)

a hanbok and two sets of baju kurung moden

i  did some research on the net on how to make a hanbok.  i came across a couple of websites/blogs that give me some idea on how to make them.  i also down loaded a couple of photos from the net for inspiration.  and i spent quite a number of days figuring out the construction of the hanbok.

finally, i decided to make some modification to the chima so that alya can wear it with ease.  alya is tall and slim.  i think she will look fabulous in hanbok.

apart from the hanbok, i also made a pair of baju kurung moden each for alya and lisa.  i made a sloper for both alya and lisa (i referred to this book that was written by lucia mors de castro).

and then i made the 1st prototype of the baju kurung for them.  once i am ok with how they look on them, i cut the actual fabric.

here are some of the photos (i only managed to photograph alya's.  lisa was away at college) :-

this is the pattern of alya's sloper on paper

front view of the actual sloper....based on the pattern paper.
i love to see how well it fits alya.

side view of the sloper.  nice.
and alya told me that it feels comfortable.

the 1st prototype...i am very pleased with
the way the sleeve hangs.  the fit of the sleeve head is almost perfect.
and alya (being a very tough critic) told me that it feels comfortable.

full front view of the 1st prototype.
i love the way it envelopes alya. not too tight not too loose.
i am definitely very pleased with the result.
i just had to edit this photo and paste some daisies here
to hide the "not so pretty background" :)

alya put on the baju kurung moden i made for her.
it was 1st day of eid 2012.

alya and lisa putting on the
baju kurung moden i made for them that 1st day of eid 2012.
i think they look fabulous.
i have to say it again...i just love the way the sleeves hang.

i think i did a pretty good job.
