i made this rubber stamp

i stumbled upon a couple of blogs on personalised rubber stamps.  so, i gave it a couple of tries.  i bought a pack of cheap erasers and made them into a few stamps.   i tried carving my signature into a piece of eraser.  i made a few futile attempts.  the eraser is too small and i kept skidding and messed up the lettering.  so i decided to just carve the necessary letters onto each end.  just a "y" and a "u".

and a "u" at the other end.  this "u" can turn into an "n".

it is just lovely.  carving rubber stamps can be quite addictive :o

handmade bag - pistachio vanilla in the making

that's ida's hands holding the bag.  to give you a
fair impression
of the relative size of the bag.

a totally different look from the earlier bags.  i designed this bag and my cousin ida helped me to put together the prototype.  ida and i agreed to name this bag "pistachio vanilla".  it is a hobo bag.  and i love the serene look of this bag.

another flip n sew

my lil sis came back from india for holiday.  she brought me a couple of plain cotton yardage in various shades of purple.  i did another flip n sew with these purple pieces and it turn out fabulous against the light coloured leather trimmings.  i am definitely going to turn this into a bag.  i'm just not sure which design to use.

nonetheless, the bag is going to be named "the stripey aubergine".  more pics on stripey aubergine click here.

was working on another flip and sew

my last update was on 2 feb.  it was lisa's (my daughter) birthday then.  and today is alya's (my daughter too) birthday.  i haven't been able to do much sewing since then.  but today i was fiddling with this lot.  this is going to be my next bag.  maybe another ayu.  maybe a new design that i am working on right now.

i use the flip and sew technique.  i didn't plan the layout nor the colour combination.  i just pick up the fabric pieces as i go.  it's not hard at all coz i am working with american cotton.

i would like to make something like these - the fabric version with some borrowed accent from leather trimmings

i have not been able to work on the bags.  i have been very busy with the little ones and their school work and the daily routine.  but i was able to use the 5-minutes-in-between to peek into some of the bag designs on the net.  here are some of them.  i would like to be able to make something like these.

i have started making some sketches and would like to work on  a 1/4 scale bag pattern as soon as i can find a comfortable and quite moment of me time.

another flip and sew patchwork

i showed ida how to use this technique and she's loving it.  she managed to complete this panel (yes! the leather trimming too) in just one sitting last nite.

this one is going to be mine.  this is my 2nd ayu bag.  my first ayu is taking a break for now.

i still need to install the snap button and tidy up some loose threads.  and the straps too (these ones are on loan from the earlier bag).

oh, by the way, i have named this bag "the pink mocha".

trying out the flip & sew patchwork

this is one of the bag panels that i was working on just now.  i used the flip and sew patchwork technique.   i like this method because it allows you to be more relaxed with the piecing process, i.e in terms of preciseness.  the outcome is just as good.  it took me less than 30 minutes to attach the pieces onto the interfacing.

i am thinking of using a light coloured leather trimming with this combo.  to see more pics of the completed bag, please click here.
